Welcome to the MGA Tour
It began with four family members teeing it up for a friendly match on Thursday, August 22, 2019. The first, innocent footsteps along a shared path that has created global golf history.
The MGA Tour was conceived by former pro Jim Maxwell, a native of St. Andrews, Scotland who came to Canada in 1957 before racking up about 100 pro and amateur tournament victories. A former contemporary of golf legends like Moe Norman, Maxwell is the only former pro in the history of the sport to have competed in a 4-generational foursome over 4 consecutive years. His incredible, unlikely statistic achievement has been captured in a “30-for-30” style documentary from Toronto-based Defiant Astronaut Media. Narrated by Ken Reid of Sportsnet, it’s called The Long Shadow of Legacy.
As you can well imagine, no one knew back in 2019 how one little golf tournament could touch so many people around the world on a deeply personal level. If anything, The MGA Tour reflects a simple, yet powerful idea; that small groups of committed, dedicated people can change the course of history and establish meaningful legacy. In the face of our hyper-connected, technology-driven world, The MGA Tour was created to reflect the true meaning and spirit of a sport that dates back to the 14th century Kingdom of Fife. It’s where values such as fellowship and friendship walk hand-in-hand with the purity of a game that serves as an ideal metaphor for real-life. Dealing with adversity and playing the game with high integrity reflect how Jim Maxwell approached the sport ever since he first picked up a club at the age of 7.
Officially sanctioned MGA Tour events is how we honour Jim’s values and ensure that future generations will always benefit from the friendly, yet competitive spirit of golf and its sacred traditions.
It’s about Living in the Moment.
And Never Looking Back.
